Zahur Ahmad

Zahur Ahmad is a dedicated social justice advocate, designer, and grassroots leader whose work spans across community empowerment, design innovation, and sustainable development. With a Master of Fine Arts in Applied Arts and Design, he has leveraged his creative skills not only in academia and professional design roles—such as his tenure at the National Institute of Design and digital studios in Mumbai—but also in grassroots activism. Throughout Gujarat, Zahur has worked tirelessly for marginalized communities including farmers, fishermen, salt pan workers, and tribal populations. He has led impactful labor movements and environmental campaigns, challenging unjust industrial practices and advocating for workers’ rights and land justice.
As the General Secretary of prominent labor unions and a leading voice in numerous people’s movements, Zahur has fought for equity in public resources and dignity for the unorganized labor sector. His commitment extends into health and livelihood initiatives—such as operating affordable medical stores and laboratories in underserved areas, and promoting tribal women’s economic independence through programs like charkha (spinning wheel) distribution. Zahur also directs BeeBee Naturals, a social enterprise producing chemical-free raw honey through eco-conscious practices. His leadership in organizations like the Thaar Livestock Federation and involvement with the MGACPC cooperative further reflect his strategic approach to rural development and self-sufficiency. Zahur Ahmad’s life is a testament to combining art, activism, and enterprise to drive systemic change for India’s most vulnerable communities.
